Belfast Pride Awards 2024 - Community Assessment

Each of the categories in this award will be independently assessed by a panel appointed by Belfast Pride against the criteria set out below. Please complete the application form at the bottom of this page to nominate in these categories.

Belfast Pride Award for Activism

Innovation, collaboration, risk-taking, and being a change-agent will all be taken into account as part of the criteria for the award. The nominating person, group, or organisation should demonstrate how the nominee invested time and talent to make positive changes for LGBTQIA+ people.

  • Candidate shows a dedication to a LGBTQIA+ cause that can be demonstrated through specific actions taken in the awards consideration period.
  • Candidate’s work has led to a demonstrable improvement in the area of LGBTQIA+ issues, including but not limited to, workplace discrimination, housing, healthcare, hate crime, young people issues, etc.
  • Candidate has been effective at communicating the need for work in areas related to LGBTQIA+ political activism and has been a consistent voice for positive change.
  • Candidate is a role model for future change efforts.

Applicants must provide evidence of activism. Examples may include:

  • Collaboration with other LGBTQIA+, ally, or community groups.
  • Dedication to a LGBTQIA+ cause that can be demonstrated through specific actions taken in the awards consideration period.
  • Work resulting in demonstrable improvement in the area of LGBTQIA+ issues, including but not limited to, workplace discrimination, housing, healthcare, marriage, teen issues, gender issues, marriage equality, etc.
  • Communicating the need for work in areas related to LGBTQIA+ political activism and consistently voicing positive change.
  • Role modelling future change efforts.

  • Candidate shows a dedication to a LGBTQIA+ cause that can be demonstrated through specific actions taken in the awards consideration period.
  • Candidate’s work has led to a demonstrable improvement in the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people (this can be one specific group such as trans and non-binary people or parents etc)
  • Candidates can show innovation in the development and delivery of service, events or other activity.

Applicants must provide evidence of innovation. Examples may include:

  • Collaboration with other LGBTQIA+, ally, or community groups.
  • Dedication to a LGBTQIA+ cause that can be demonstrated through specific actions taken in the awards consideration period.

Work resulting in demonstrable improvement in the area of LGBTQIA+ issues, including but not limited to, workplace discrimination, housing, healthcare, marriage, teen issues, gender issues, marriage equality, etc.

Employer of the Year

Commitment to diversity and inclusion and historic and/or ongoing commitment to pursuing and executing workplace equality for LGBTQ employees in their workplace will all be taken into account as part of the criteria for the award. This employer has a history of not only continually raising the bar of workplace equality for others to follow but also supports other organisations’ diversity and inclusion efforts as well through active knowledge sharing and peer organisation mentoring.

  • Candidate shows a dedication to a LGBTQIA+ equality and inclusion.
  • Candidate’s work has led to a demonstrable improvement for LGBTQIA+ employees
  • Candidate has a demonstrable infrastructure for LGBTQIA+ inclusion including an LGBTQIA+ staff network

Applicants must provide evidence of excellence in employment. Examples may include:

  • Collaboration with LGBTQIA+, ally, or community groups.
  • Dedication to a LGBTQIA+ cause that can be demonstrated through specific actions taken in the awards consideration period.
  • Work resulting in demonstrable improvement in their workplace on LGBTQIA+ issues.

Working in Partnership Award

Innovation, collaboration, risk-taking, and being a change-agent will all be taken into account as part of the criteria for the award. The nominating person, group, or organisation should demonstrate how the nominee invested time and talent to work in partnership to make positive changes for LGBTQIA+ people.

  • Candidate shows a dedication to a LGBTQIA+ cause that can be demonstrated through specific actions taken in the awards consideration period.
  • Candidate’s partnership work has led to a demonstrable improvement in the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people (this can be one specific group such as trans and non-binary people or parents etc)
  • Candidates can show innovation in the development and delivery of service, events or other activity within the partnership.

Applicants must provide evidence of partnership. Examples may include:

  • Collaboration with other LGBTQIA+, ally, or community groups.
  • Dedication to a LGBTQIA+ cause that can be demonstrated through specific actions taken in the awards consideration period through partnership.
  • Work through partnership resulting in demonstrable improvement in the area of LGBTQIA+ issues, including but not limited to, workplace discrimination, housing, healthcare, marriage, teen issues, gender issues, marriage equality, etc.

The LGBTQ+ Ally Awards seeks to recognise and acknowledge the importance of demonstrated and consistent commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community by community groups, trade unions and businesses.

The nominating person, group, or organisation should demonstrate how the nominee invested time and talent to work to make positive changes for LGBTQIA+ people.

  • Candidate shows a dedication to a LGBTQIA+ cause that can be demonstrated through specific actions taken in the awards consideration period.
  • Candidate’s work has led to a demonstrable improvement in the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people

Politician of the Year

Any serving or previous politician (councillor, assembly member, MP etc) who meet the criteria can be nominated for this award. Nominees must evidence specific actions taken and/or outcomes achieved through the direct work of the politician.
