We are happy to announce that we have sent our Letter of Intent to the European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA) to formally declare that we intend to submit a bid to bring EuroPride to Belfast in 2023. It’s real now! This means that we have officially entered the competition and will be entering a bid to host EuroPride in Belfast.
We have a lot of ambition for Belfast Pride and we are proud of our city – we want to build on the best of Belfast Pride and build a plan that brings together the best of our unique Pride. Belfast Pride is grounded in community and is always aspiring to represent the LGBT+ citizens of Belfast with groundbreaking events promoting equality inclusion. This year Belfast Pride had over 155 events during the festival and Pride Day this year brought 60,000 in to the centre of Belfast in a spirit combining protest and celebration under the theme of ‘RightsNow’ focusing Pride on the growing gap in rights between LGBT+ people here and in the rest of Western Europe.
Belfast City Council passed a motion this week committing the Council to supporting the Belfast Pride bid and we will be working with them over the coming months to turn this in to the action and funding needed to turn our ambition in to something spectacular for the LGBT+ community in Belfast, the city and the rest of Europe.
